DiscoCat is for exploring, streaming, rating, and tracking musical artists and composers from the popular to the obscure.

  • Artist details include a description and other relevant information, a comprehensive discography, associated groups (for individuals) or band members (for groups), creative works, related artists (including cover bands), related releases (including tribute albums), related record labels, and external links

  • Release details include a description and other relevant information, track listings, release versions, and external links

  • Show all release versions optionally grouped by format (such as vinyl, CD, etc.) or release country

  • Work details include the creators such as the composer, lyricist, etc., all the recordings (grouped by artist), related works, and external links

  • Links to related external web sites such as fan pages, music services, lyrics sites, and many other databases

Stream

  • Apple Music or Spotify¹ subscribers may stream any artist, release, or track that is found in those respective streaming catalogs without leaving the app²

  • Users without streaming subscriptions will still be provided with external links if it is found in the respective streaming catalog

  • Rate or simply bookmark any artist, release, release-version, track, recording, work, or record-label to save it to your collection³

  • Group your saved tracks by album or artist or simply show all sorted by rating

  • Group your saved releases by artist or genre or type or simply show all sorted by rating

  • Several different rating schemes are supported such as 3, 4, or 5 star, out-of-ten, like/dislike, favorite, etc.

  • Suggested Artists: discover many other artists that share the same genres as your favorite artists

  • Recent Releases: keep up-to-date with the latest releases from your favorite artists

  • ¹ Spotify streaming in-app is currently only supported on iOS and external streaming links will be provided instead

  • ² Spotify streaming may sometimes momentarily switch to the Spotify app and come back before playing due to the unavoidable behavior of the Spotify SDK

  • ³ Saving more than 10 of any item type (artist, release, etc.) requires an active subscription to the full version

Possibly. We will be looking into the APIs of other streaming services to see if they offer the streaming functionally that we need.

That is the dream. If enough of you support us with a subscription, we may be able to hire more developers! 😘

Unfortunately this behavior is built into the Spotify SDK itself and can’t be avoided on our side.
